Parking Solution for Displaced Drivers During Construction
Property Owners, general contractors, and builders & developers: do you have a property that is undergoing construction & needs a parking solution for all your residents? If so, this case study on ParqEx providing a complete parking solution for displaced drivers during construction is the perfect read for you.
This massive project had two leading companies: Walsh Construction & Fluor Corporation. Walsh Construction, one of the nation’s largest general contracting & design-build companies, has been around since 1949 when it was incorporated in Chicago. Fluor Corporation, headquartered in Irving, TX, provides engineering, procurement & construction services worldwide and has been doing so for over 100 years.
Walsh Construction and its joint venture partner Fluor Corporation, operating under the name Walsh-Fluor Design-Build Team, was the general contractor on the CTA’s Red-Purple modernization project. This project was no small feat! It ran through both the Uptown & Edgewater neighborhoods of Chicago.
The Red-Purple Reconstruction project had massive tasks on its hands. It needed first-off to enhance the rail line, drastically improving the efficiency of the CTA’s service and transit system. But, a big issue arose when the CTA & Walsh-Fluor Design-Build Team recognized that they would be displacing hundreds of neighborhood parking spots during construction. Undoubtedly, the Walsh-Fluor Design-Build Team needed to develop a parking solution that would be convenient for all the neighborhood residents quickly.
The Walsh-Fluor team needed a parking solutions provider that could provide replacement parking to understandably frustrated residents seamlessly. This is where ParqEx joined the team! First, ParqEx sat down with the entire team & got a firm understanding of the project’s logistics, the affected neighborhoods, and the scope of all the drivers and guests. Next, the ParqEx team needed to propose a solution that would resolve conflict for the entire duration of the construction project. Finally, after understanding all the demands & requirements of the project, getting a firm idea of just how many residents would be displaced, and accounting for an estimate of additional guest parkers in the neighborhood, ParqEx proposed a solution that includes ParqEx’s proprietary technology, Access +, GuestParq, and Marketplace.
Four parking locations were each set up with ParqEx’s Marketplace, where drivers could choose from their preferred parking location in the ParqEx mobile app & reserve their spot. Every spot was set for $0, a ParqEx special just for Walsh-Fluor. ParqEx then implemented its GuestParq services, allowing all neighborhood residents to reserve visitor parking just as they would reserve their own on the ParqEx mobile app.
Lastly, ParqEx provided the neighborhood residents with Access+ for the gated property, allowing all renters to access and operate the garage door or gate via the ParqEx Access+ app. This was also made available to approved visitors and guests.
Even though ParqEx’s technology suite is very straightforward and user-friendly, the ParqEx team went the extra mile. It provided a detailed user guide for anyone needing some guidance. This user guide, video tutorial, FAQs, and quick-start guide were all included on a dedicated website specifically for Edgewater & Uptown residents & guests. All these informational tools benefitted all residential parkers, many of whom had never used a parking app before ParqEx!
The result of ParqEx’s involvement in this project is easy to recognize. All residents and guests of the Edgewater & Uptown neighborhoods in Chicago gained FREE secure parking during construction. Sure, the situation was not ideal for the residents of Edgewater & Uptown, but the solution was quick and easy. It also saved some residents money as they no longer had to pay for their neighborhood parking during construction.
The overall result is 99.9% entry reliability, more than five thousand secure entries during construction, and $0 cost for all residents and guests.
“Our project had a unique parking situation that needed to be addressed, affecting hundreds of people in the neighborhoods. The ParqEx team put significant effort into understanding our situation and devised a custom solution to handle all aspects of parking. In addition, they provided adequate training and continued supporting my team when needed throughout the project!” Marcy O’Boyle Jensen (Communications Manager, Walsh-Fluor DBT)
