As the month of May rolls into Chicago we know summer is not far behind. Plus, there are a ton of great events in the city that really bring the summer atmosphere home. Let’s take a look at 10 of the premiere local events happening in Chicago during the month of May:
1. Mayfest
This Lakeview neighborhood tradition celebrating its 21st consecutive year this year is generally the kick-off to street festival season in the city. Enjoy great food and beer while listening to music in a giant heated tent. This year you can hear from local favorite 7th heaven, as well as The Boy Band Night and Too White Crew. Gear up for the summer street festival season at this great event running May 19th through the 21st on N Ashland Ave.

2. Polish Parade
The Chicago Polish Parade, which celebrates the Polish Constitution of 1791 in honor of the first democratic constitution in Europe, is celebrating its 126th year this May. Polish history, traditions, and values will be on display. Everyone is welcome to come and celebrate the Polish Heritage May 6th. The parade runs down Columbus Dr starting at 11:30.
3. Belmont-Sheffield Music Fest
This great street festival is in its 33rd year and is one of the best community events. The festival features a ton of great food, drinks, and crafts made by local artisans. Come out and enjoy two days of music on two different stages right off the Belmont Redline stop. The festival runs May 27th through May 28th.
4. Cinco de Mayo Parade and Festivities
No one needs reminding of when this great celebration occurs. Come out and enjoy live music, delicious food and drink, and of course take part in some of the wonderful arts and crafts activities available. The celebration occurs in the Little Village part of town. This parade and its festivities are a great way to learn more about Mexican culture and it is always a lot of fun!
5. Bike the Drive
Do you love riding bikes? Do you love the scenery of Lake Shore Dr? Bike the drive is a great event for you is you enjoy either of those! On Sunday May 28th participants can bike down Lake Shore Dr from Bryn Mawr all the way to the Museum of Science and Industry and back during five hours of car-free riding!

6. Chicago Beer Classic
On May 6th recover from your Cinco de Mayo celebration by sampling the best beer that Chicago and the Midwest area can provide. Attendees receive 48 2 oz samples of beer and are able to cast their vote for their favorite beer. The event takes place on the Soldier Field/Museum campus.
7. Kids and Kites Festival
Also on May 6th, for more family oriented fun enjoy this great festival in Lincoln Park. Kids can fly kites or watch demonstrations by professional kite flyers. Free paper kites are provided, but you will also have the opportunity to buy more intricate kites as well.
8. Lincoln Park Wine Fest
Come celebrate the inaugural Lincoln Park Wine Fest this year! Sample more than 80 wines from all over the world while enjoying classical music. The festival occurs May 20th and May 21st in Jonquil Park.
9. Memorial Day Parade
On May 27th, after a wreath is laid at the eternal flame in Daley Plaza, one of the oldest and largest Memorial Day parades in the country will kick-off. The parade runs down State Street from Lake to Van Buren. This event is great for a group outing or a family. It has been a city tradition since 1870.
10. Anime CentralÂ
The largest anime, manga, and Japanese pop culture convention reconvenes for its 19th year Frday May 19th through Sunday May 21st. There are a number of workshops, dances, educational panels and so much more! Come see it for yourself at the Donald E Stephens convention center.
