Introducing the New Duplicate License Plate Registration Feature: A Flexible Solution for Varying Parking Needs
Attention! We’re excited to announce that we are introducing the New Duplicate License Plate Registration Feature! This much-requested feature for ParqEx users will go live on November 1, 2024. This new feature gives property managers greater flexibility in managing how vehicles are registered, making it possible to allow or restrict a single vehicle (identified by its license plate) from being registered by more than one user at a specific property.
Purpose and Problem Solved
We are introducing the new duplicate license plate registration feature because properties have varying needs when managing vehicles, especially when multiple people might drive the same vehicle. In some properties, such as where roommates or family members share a vehicle, allowing multiple users to register the same license plate makes sense. This ensures all parties can reserve guest parking or access the parking facilities seamlessly without requiring each driver to have a separate vehicle.
On the other hand, properties with strict enforcement or specific rules around guest parking, such as Avenue One in California, face unique challenges. Avenue One allows each user five free guest passes. If a single vehicle is registered to multiple users at the same property, it can create confusion for enforcement teams tracking vehicle activity. The system might inaccurately calculate guest pass usage, causing errors in enforcement and potentially resulting in improper application of rules or even penalties for residents.
With this new feature, property managers can now control how vehicles are registered at their properties, creating a more streamlined experience for both the management team and the residents.
How the New Feature Works
The new Duplicate License Plate Registration feature can be toggled on or off from the property’s account setup page. Here’s what the setting does:
- When Enabled: The same license plate can be registered to multiple users at the same property. This is useful for shared vehicles, such as when multiple residents use the same car but have different parking or guest reservation needs.
Example: At a student housing property, two roommates who share a car can each have the vehicle registered under their individual accounts, making it easier for both to reserve guest parking or access other parking amenities. - When Disabled, the system restricts each vehicle (by license plate) to only one user’s registration. This prevents multiple users from sharing the same vehicle registration, simplifying enforcement and guest pass tracking.
Example: At Avenue One, the property uses strict vehicle tracking to enforce its five-free guest pass policy. By restricting a license plate to only one user, the system ensures that a single vehicle’s guest pass usage is counted correctly, eliminating confusion and ensuring proper enforcement.
This setting is enabled by default to maintain backward compatibility, meaning existing properties that already allow multiple users to register the same license plate will continue to function as they always have. For properties that require stricter enforcement, managers can easily toggle the feature off.
Why This Feature Matters
The Duplicate License Plate Registration feature solves a critical issue for properties that need flexibility in handling vehicle registrations. It provides a simple and seamless solution for properties that allow shared vehicles without disrupting the user experience. At the same time, properties that enforce strict guest pass limits or have other vehicle-tracking rules can ensure accurate enforcement and avoid errors.
This feature will be available to all ParqEx customers starting November 1, 2024, and can be configured directly within the admin portal.
