This massive project had two leading companies: Walsh Construction & Fluor Corporation. Walsh Construction, one of the nation’s largest general contracting & design-build companies, has been around since 1949 when it was incorporated in Chicago. Fluor Corporation, headquartered in Irving, TX, provides engineering, procurement & construction services worldwide and has been doing so for over 100 years.

The Situation

Walsh Construction and its joint venture partner Fluor Corporation, operating under the name Walsh-Fluor Design-Build Team, was the general contractor on the CTA’s Red-Purple modernization project. This project was no small feat! It ran through both the Uptown & Edgewater neighborhoods of Chicago. 

The Red-Purple Reconstruction project had massive tasks on its hands. It needed first-off to enhance the rail line, drastically improving the efficiency of the CTA’s service and transit system. But, a big issue arose when the CTA & Walsh-Fluor Design-Build Team recognized that they would be displacing hundreds of neighborhood parking spots during construction. Undoubtedly, the Walsh-Fluor Design-Build Team needed to develop a parking solution that would be convenient for all the neighborhood residents quickly.

The Solution

The Walsh-Fluor team needed a parking solutions provider that could provide replacement parking to understandably frustrated residents seamlessly. This is where ParqEx joined the team! First, ParqEx sat down with the entire team & got a firm understanding of the project’s logistics, the affected neighborhoods, and the scope of all the drivers and guests. Next, the ParqEx team needed to propose a solution that would resolve conflict for the entire duration of the construction project. Four parking locations were each set up with ParqEx’s Marketplace, where drivers could choose from their preferred parking location in the ParqEx mobile app & reserve their spot. With only five designated guest parking spots, the property required an efficient, app-based reservation system that catered exclusively to tenants and their guests. The goal was to replace an outdated system with a cost-effective, user-friendly solution while maintaining strict parking rules for tenants and guests. Implementing useful guest parking management for Colony Reserve has been successfully executed.    • To address Colony Reserve’s Florida-related weather concerns about signage and stickers, ParqEx proposed replacing outdated signage with durable metal signs or weather-resistant QR code stickers.
   • To replace preexisting and confusing QR codes, ParqEx configured dynamic QR codes to redirect users to the appropriate guest parking reservation workflow.
